About our Side Event

Leveraging Research Infrastructures for Addressing Climate Risks

Climate change poses a significant threat, demanding a coordinated global response. Research Infrastructures play a critical role by providing data and expertise to understand and address climate risks. This session explores how RIs from various regions can be leveraged for comprehensive climate action strategies.

Key Topics

Concrete Agenda is Coming Soon!
  • The Role of RIs in Climate Action: A brief introduction to how RIs contribute to climate research and mitigation.
  • The IRISCC Project: A detailed overview of the project’s goals and how it integrates European RIs to address climate risks. The potential for applying similar approaches in other regions will be discussed.
  • Whole System Approach to Climate Risks: The importance of a holistic approach to addressing climate challenges, with a focus on specific examples from relevant RIs.
  • Regional RI Contributions: Presentations on the contributions of RIs from various regions, including Africa, Australia, Asia, US and Europe, highlighting their focus areas, impacts and potential collaborations.
  • Interactive Panel Discussion: Experts from RIs will discuss building collaborative frameworks, fostering international cooperation, and identifying gaps and opportunities for RI development in climate change-related risks.

Expected Outcomes

  • Promotion of international collaboration among RIs from different domains to address global climate-change related challenges.
  • Identification of strategies for a more integrated RI framework for comprehensive climate risk mitigation across regions.
  • Promotion of IRISCC and its resources for climate researchers.

This session aims to foster a global dialogue on the role of RIs in addressing climate change and to inspire collaborative initiatives for a more sustainable future.
